*The name Curuzú Cuatiá is of Guaraní origin and means "Engraved Cross". The early settlers (Spanish conquistadores and Jesuit missionaries in Uruguay) called it Posta de Cruz since the site was a crossroads, marked by a large cross with an inscription. [Ed.]
